Fiber Reinforced Polymer Composites for the Electrical Market

Electrical Market
Fiber reinforced polymer profiles have been successfully used in electrical applications for over 20 years.

Pultruded cable supports, high on the tunnel's side walls, were used in the largest privately financed engineering project ever, connecting Britain to the European mainland. Over eight million pounds of pultruded fiber reinforced polymer composites support 783 miles of electrical cables and optic fibers that control lighting, ventilation and communications. The 25,000 volt cables that supply power to the trains are also supported with pultruded composites. The product met the following specification requirements:

  • Temperatures ranging from 41ºF to 104ºF
  • Humidity at 100%
  • Wind speeds of 223 m.p.h.
  • Constant saltwater spray or even immersion
  • Fire, smoke and toxicity safety criteria
  • Easy installation
  • Minimum maintenance
  • Minimum overall cost
  • Resistance to static loading of cables

Cable trays offer durability in the European Chunnel

  Cable Tray
Our pultruded cable tray, struts and framing components are superior to traditional materials. Cable Trays and strut systems are offered in Series 1525 Isophthalic  Fire Retardant (IFR), 1626 Vinyl ester Fire Retardant (VFR) and low smoke zero hallogen fire retardant, depending on the specification of individual applications.

Telecommunications Tower
Providing communication from Alaska to the continental U.S.

Electronic signals pass through fiber reinforced polymer composites without distortion.
