Martin Marietta Completes First Composite Trailer

Sparta, North Carolina – Martin Marietta Composites (MMC) celebrated completion of the first composite trailer on December 18, 2003 , at their Sparta , North Carolina plant. The live-floor transfer unit is 48 feet long and considered to be the first all composite trailer manufactured in North America.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held at the Sparta , North Carolina facility to commemorate this event. Sparta Mayor John Miller and Eldon Edwards, representing Alleghany County , cut a ribbon, and gave sections to the customers of West Palm Beach Solid Waste Authority and local dignitaries as a memento of the day’s event.

In addition to live-floor transfer trailers, tipper trailers are expected to join the product line in the near future. MMC manufactures composite bridge decks in this same facility. Creative Pultrusions, Inc. of Alum Bank, PA is the supplier of choice of all pultruded components to MMC in both the FRP composite trailer and bridge deck applications.
